Ruckus and Riots! |

November, 1877 Law and Order in Maddock has been something hard to say without a grimace and it's certainly no fault of Sheriff Barron or Marshal Tucker. It's a wonder that the sheriff hasn't considered tendering his resignation for a less dangerous job, Mayor perhaps. In a surprise turn of events, the Sheriff and a couple of Great Falls deputies transported that Mason guy, the one involved in the whole Theo Grey kidnapping matter in an open buckboard for his trial which was to be held in Great Falls since Judge Framingham was traveling his circuit. It's not really any surprise that the man had more men on his side, to ambush the lawmen while they crossed an open plain in an effort to free Mason. The two deputies were shot dead, Barron was shot as well but not before taking out several of the gang members when they were riding off, including Mason himself who was already recovering from earlier wounds. Rumors quickly circulated that Barron was dead, but they were squashed quickly by the arrival of the Doctor who confirmed that Barron had been injured, but not mortally so. Not a few days later, the Ladies Auxiliary Club had the biggest surprise yet after arriving at Barron's house, many cooked dishes in hand to find the door opened by Eugenia Rhodes! Seems the widow had moved into the Sheriff's house in order to see to his recovery, a scandal to be sure that was only offset by the even more surprising announcement a few weeks later that the Sheriff had married Mrs. Rhodes! While the Sheriff was recovering, the town was under the watchful gaze of Deputy Booth and another deputy from Great Falls, but understaffed it was no surprise that after Mrs Caitlin Lockhart disappeared it was two men from town who located her within the gang's lair and rescued her, finishing off the rest of the already wounded men. Seems Mrs. Lockhart was taken on account of her nursing skills, in hopes that she could patch up their wounded. The sheriff did recover, in fact some might say he was back at his job just a bit quicker then he should have been, even with a new wife to try and stop him. He was rumored to lock up a few men in the jail cell for a few days after a disturbance (yes another) at the Restaurant. This one involving Angelique Dumont and Christopher Quintan. Just another way that the LAC ladies can tsk softly about Miss Dumont, the woman seems to have a trail of trouble on her backside.
