Just a few short weeks after his announcement at the Town Meeting, our new banker Jason Delaware Clysdon and the Bank of Maddock held a silent auction to sell of certain prime lots in the town.
It is no wonder that during the bidding window, many potential bidders including Miss Letitia Taylor and Miss Gem Trotters were seen calling on Mr. Clysdon to possibly convince the banker that they were the most interested in the prime square lots.
It really is no surprise that the largest lot on the town square was conveniently won by Miss Gem Trotters.
Utilizing her new strong connections with the Ladies Axillary Circle, Miss Taylor immediately started a crusade with the town officials to stop the building of not one, but potentially two saloons in the town square.
And she may have succeeded if she hadn't been accosted by a group of miners in what might be considered a carefully planned event. Could it be that these miners were so desperate for a saloon that they were willing to risk it all to threaten a woman like Letitia or did someone with more intelligence (and likely money) orchestrate this to ensure the building of the saloons.
