The children in the tent city on the Reformed Church lawn suffered a bit of a loss -- apparently, the little Chinaman who gave them honey candies packed up all the colorful things in his tent, and moved away, on a horse and cart. He apparently told the crestfallen schoolchildren he'd be back to visit, but that he had a new place he had to live, somewhere on the outskirts of town. One of the miners, later that day, spat and reported that apparently, some Choo managed to get a spot right on the river. What's worse, he was seen in the company of a white woman, apparently showing off his new land to her. Well ain't that a kick in the head. Next thing you know, Mexicans'll be livin' in mansions in the middle of town! Return to the Archive |
