"Oh dear, would you look at that?" Mrs. Elmira Feathers says to her companion Mille. "There's Hattie McQueen, the poor dear."
Mille blinks owlishly, "Why? Did Mr. McQueen lose all his money?"
Elmira stares at her friend, "Why no dear. It is that awful Ripley boy...the one who runs the newspaper. He went and broke poor Alice's heart." She primly sips her tea, "It's true. Says he's moving back East and he isn't going to marry her after all."
Mille frowns. She was sure she heard that Alice and Elijah Knight were stepping out. "So does that mean the newspaper is for sale?"
