Widow Rhodes was at the Cooking Circle to help make things for the town meeting and she was talking about putting away her mourning clothes!

Really? I suppose that it -has- been six months since the fire, though, hasn't it?

It sure has, but some of the ladies thought the idea was scandalous. I even heard she jokingly asked who they thought would make a good farmer!

You think she's not only going to put away her black, but that she's gonna look for a husband, too?

Yup. All that trouble she's having out on the farm, I reckon she is. And, you know? I don't blame her.

Summer's too hot to wear black, poor woman. Maybe it's not such a bad idea after all. Isn't your cousin good at growin' things?

*Snort* Good at growin' hair on his back, maybe, but I'll steer him the widow's way. You never know! If she needs a husband bad enough, who knows who she'll take!

She's not ugly, she's a good cook, she's got 160 acres of land? Think anybody'll be interested?
