To the Residents of Maddock, This note is written to you to in thanks for the assistance I received from you during and after an attack on my house that occurred a few days ago. Some of you are not accepting of Chinese people, and made your displeasure known by breaking into my house and trying to burn my courtyard. A very portly man named Harry attempted to assault Caitlin Lockhart, my medical apprentice. No one was badly injured, and the perpetrators, one of whom is called Randy, were released after being warned by the Sheriff. I am thankful that the violence did not escalate to cause harm to anyone, including the misguided souls who broke into my house in the first place. I am surprised and humbled by the help and concern I received from the town thus far, especially in assisting my apprentice and hired housemaid in finding safer accomodation following the attack. This is a most generous thing that I am truly thankful for. It is my hope in the future that I remain the humble benficiary of your good will, and in return I will continue to serve doubly hard as the only doctor in town, with Mrs Lockhart's assistance. There are many of you, and one of me, but with your continued generosity you shall receive my continued gratitiude and service in turn. Sincerely, Zachary Kei Zungji, MD Return to the Archive |
