Maddock is simply abuzz with gossip after news of the listing of lots gets out. The Ladies Auxiliary Club is aghast. If you listen carefully on the street to the more upstanding citizens, this is what you'll hear:
"Lord have mercy on us -all-. The lot where the old hotel stood has gone to that Miss Gem Trotters?"
"They better not let her build -her- kind of house there! Who wants to live in a town that has a bordello right on the town square! Scandalous!"
"Scandalous, my foot. It's an outrage, it is. Why I'm going home to give my Henry an earful about this. If he doesn't go to the mayor about this, he won't have apple pie again for the rest of his life!"
"Yes! The mayor! We should all speak to him about the outrage. The good citizens of Maddock won't stand to have a house of whores right out on the main square!"
