There are a number of Non-Player Characters (NPC's) throughout the game which
have been created to fill gaps in essential positions. Such positions might include things like Blacksmith, Butcher, Saw Mill operator, where there are no current Player Characters filling the role, but the town of Maddock is not without such a person with those skills. These NPC's are available to
player's to take on as a permanent character if they so desire. Simply contact the contact person indicated. You may also have a character idea of your own for someone who has the skills of an existing NPC character, and
have hopes of fulfilling that role. Again, contact the associated person and if the idea fits, the NPC may find themselves selling their business and leaving town.
This board may also be used as a recruiting means, for recruiting either players to play your own NPC family members, or to characters of a specific skill set/personality that you think would add to the game atmosphere.
Aside from the postings on this recruiting board, you can also come up with any
number of ideas of your own. The @census command is extremely helpful in
seeing what folks are already actively playing (see help @census) especially @census/vocation which shows openings in various vocations.
Employment Officer...
Key Character Role: Employment Officer
Quote: "By the early part of 1879, the trickle of new settlers had become a steady flow, and Fisk wrote
worriedly of a “horde on our borders” that he hoped might be held back “by public notice to the world that Montana is an unhealthy place for beggars.” In Helena, which had been ravaged four times by catastrophic fires, people were especially fearful of vagrants because they often built bonfires to warm themselves, while a more violent element occasionally engaged in arson to divert attention and create a cover for burglary. Rather than run anyone out of town, though, Helena’s city fathers took the humane, precautionary approach of appointing an employment officer who recorded the names and occupations of new arrivals and forwarded the information to potential employers."
This character would be a key role in the ongoing RP in Maddock and would be
open to any player who shows a talent for stirring up roleplay, devising his or her own tinyplots as well as a regular RP schedule. You would essentially be a newbie greeter in an IC fashion, and an important asset to the game. The ideal person would have a good OOC
temperament for this task.
Interested parties should submit an application by @request which details who you want to create, why you want the role and what tinyplots you might like to see stirred up with this character. (Be creative).
Lawyer...
This is a RP vocation, with the right player could lead to some interesting corruption and side by side deals. The lawyer comes with his own offices outside of Maddock. Mining towns often boasted 20+ lawyers, as mine claims were often in dispute.
Anyone who would like to take this position may create a character, set his
background and work towards taking over the offices. Contact via
@request with your intent to do so.
Stable Owner...
This character would be a support role in the ongoing RP in Maddock and would be open to any player looking to create a new semi-regular character on Maddock. Interested parties should
@request about taking over. The new stable owner would be purchasing it from Ryan.
(@background Ryan)
Land Agent...
This is a RP vocation, with the right player could lead to some interesting corruption and side by side deals. The land agent is
responsible for processing all Homestead Act claims as well as information the staff of who is waiting for their 'land' which will be built (game wise) when time permits. If the right player accepts the role and is regularly active for one real life month, we will also build them an office within the town buildings. For historical reference, see:

Mining Camp Owner...
Key Character: Mining Camp Owner
The Mine outside Maddock is a key element of Maddock's history.
Owned by Walter P Challow, the mine's presence has driven much of Maddock's
economy over the last twenty years. After Walter Challow's death, a
young man by the name of Allister Winthrop came along to take over.
The hardened miners laughed the man right out of town. Since then, the
Winthrop's manage the mine from afar, through the Mine Boss.
This character would be a key role in the ongoing RP in Maddock and would be
open to any player who shows a talent for stirring up roleplay, devising his or her own tinyplots as well as a regular RP schedule. Interested parties should
submit their intent via @request which details who you want to create, why you want the role and how your proposed character might have come to assume this place from Allister
Winthrop.

Pinkerton Detective...
Looking for a good vocation? A good traveling vocation for someone is Pinkerton
Detective. This role would take you from Maddock to Great Falls often as you
cover the entire area.
Ranch Hands...
There are three large ranches around Maddock, the Double M, the Twin Hills and The Brandt Farm. As such, Maddock has a high population of ranch hands and support staff for these homesteads. This includes but is not limited to Wranglers, Cooks, House Support Staff, Farriers and more. Talk with Evangeline, Ramsey for the Double M Ranch, Madeline Quintan for the Twin Hills Ranch or Samantha or Benjamin for the Brandt Farm.
Miners...
At this time, Montana is the number one territory for Gold Mining. Maddock is mainly supported by its gold mining industry, where miner's often come down
off the hills in search of entertainment and supplies. The local mining company employs 350 miners, so this is always a vocation that is open.
Other Ideas...
Since I have created the @census/vocation command, this is a good getting started resource for new character ideas. Any of the vocations listed with a 0 are potentially available.
